In the early and mid-1990s, Fresno, California's Mindbender were part of a wave of alt-metal bands when hybridization of metal, funk, and rap was still a relatively new thing (the era of Rage Against the Machine and "grunge­"). Their 1994 self-produced album 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 showcased technical performance while also being "groove-y." They had hooks, melody, powerful vocals, great rhythm, as well as a world-class bassist (Marino Mongelli, whose slap and tap techniques reminded one of Victor Wooten and Stanley Jordan ).

Today, the band gets a significantly altered re-boot: they're now a trio rather than a quartet, and it's a different singer, different guitarist (both in James Henry Miller). The new advance single is a tune more simplified than the past material, yet still retaining their essential essence. Give it a listen and see what you think.
